The Black Rhino, actually gray in color, is poached mainly for its horns, but some groups even believe them to have magical and/or medicinal qualities. Comercial demand has force black rhinoceroses to the brink. The especially disheartening problem with poaching for horns is the trauma black rhinos are put through for horn harvesting. The horns are cut of and the rhino is left there to die in pain.

Black Rhinos have 2 horns the front of which is more prominent. Their horns grow about 3 inches each years and can reach 5 feet long. The horns are helpful for females trying to protect their young and males going up for battle. Sadly, their defense mechanism harms them due to commercial trade and poaching.
These rhinos differ from others because of their pointed upper lip as opposed to the square upper lip of the white rhino. The pointed lip is an adaptation related to the black rhino's diet of trees and bushes.

Females and their offspring are the only black rhinos that live in groups. Otherwise, they are a solitary species. Females produce 1 calf every 2 and a half to 5 years. Said calf will stay with the mother for about 3 years.
