The Western lowland gorilla may be critically endangered, but it has more of a hope that some of its relatives. There are few estimates as to what the current population is. It is difficult to tell because of the dense forests in which these animals live.
These animals are suffering because of habitat destruction. Of course, this lessens the land on which animals can live. It also brings people closer to the gorillas meaning they are killed more often for bushmeat.

Western lowland gorillas differ from their relatives because of their smaller stature, shorter hair, and longer arms.
Gorillas follow a vegetarian diet of roots, fruit, wild celery, and bark.
Gorillas live in groupings of up to 30. They do everything together at the jurisdiction of the silverback in charge.
Females give birth to one offspring after and nine moth gestation period. These small animals only capable of grabbing their mother's fur eventually become strong gorillas.
